I'm looking for food suggestions for a cat with food allergies. I have 6 cats total. And I have two that have hairballs, one that needs a diet high in fiber, one with a food allergy, and one that is overweight. I need a good dry food that can make them all happy and not break the bank.
I can't really feed them all separate foods because I have to leave the dry food out for one cat who is picky about when she eats. So, feeding a separate diet to those cats who need it, is extremely difficult. It's hard to keep them out of the food I keep out all day for the one cat who needs it.
Any suggestions?
I can't recommend a dry food. There are a few out there that are better than the others, but they still suck. In addition to what's in the link below, Wellness has begun making a grainless dry food - I believe it's called Core.
I've also linked to an article on food allergies in cats that will likely have some suggestions. What it boils down to is feeding unusual meats, like venison, elk, emu, etc. They don't have to be even that exotic - just feeding a meat that a cat wouldn't normally eat can result in better digestion.
I'm not sure why a cat would need a high-fiber diet….is it due to digestive issues/loose stool? If so, there are other things you can do so he doesn't have to eat a special diet. Things like supplementing with a digestive enzyme, adding more water to his food, slippery elm, etc.
For the fatty, see the articles on obesity.
What all this boils down to is that I think you'd be better served to switch them (slowly of course) to a good quality canned food. Except for Mr. High Fiber, I believe that all your cats would benefit from this. And as for Mr. High Fiber, he might benefit too, although I can't say for sure because I don't understand the issue.

I just wondered if anyone could help me work this out? I stopped earing bread a year ago as it made me bloat up so much i looked heavily pregnant and gave me horrible stomach cramps. It settled down and i have avoided bread and all bread products since. Its not wheat becuase i can still eat shreddies, wholemeal rice and pasta. If its not the wheat in the bread what else do you think it could be? I can still eat cakes and biscuits and im puzzled!! Anyone else have this?
Dont post your adverts here, i dont want to lose weight!!!
I dont think its gluten, i eat a lot of gluten products with no problems.
Food intolerance is a myth!
real allergies are serious and immediate and you know what you are intolerant to!
Starch in food (often cakes and bread as they are made form refined flour) can make people with acid regulation issues bloat but this is not an intolerance as such.
avoiding dairy and bread based on myths about intolerance and blood group preferences (mostly American diet guru's) can lead to a badly balanced diet.
the most often it is caused by acid overproduction in the gut caused by lack of fibre and complex carbs resulting in a slow transit sand bloating.
eat more complex carbs such as butternut squash broccoli etc and avoid starchy foods such as bread and mashed potato. also drinking more water will help! it will speed up transit.
Finally the Wind - trying to hold in wind is a major cause of bloating along with insufficient water and too much starch in your diet.
Ignore anyone who called themselves a nutritionist (Dr Gillian McFraud for example, not only is her doctorate a fake one there is no such qualification as a nutritionist. The only true qualification is a dietitian and the advice they give is aboutbalanced food groups and calorie control .
Avice,
Cut out starch (Bread adn Mashed potato)
Drink More water
Eat more balanced
Pass Wind more
Take antacids or Zantac or similar (see Doctor)
Eat more complex carbs..
